Sony announce V3.00 firmware for the FS7

Sony announce V3.00 firmware for the FS7

Details of this firmware release have been kicking around for the last month or so but Sony delayed it due to discovering some issues.  Indeed, this was announced last Tuesday but I wanted to wait until we had updated our cameras.  So what's new?

You can now move the focus magnification area around the screen - perfect for focusing off-centre when you've already framed.  Image Scan mode we've already seen on the FS5 - effectively it's using the central part of the sensor and crops the image.  This usefully extends the focal range of your lens.

Noise suppression is now available in Cine EI mode.  Whilst I am sure most customers will put their footage through post and apply NR software, it's really useful to have a solution straight out the box for both modes.

Here is the list of new features and improvements straight from Sony

1.) Focus Magnification function is improved.
- Support for magnification area position adjustment
- Magnification resolution improvement
2.) Support for “2K Full”, “2K Center” setting in Image Scan Mode
3.) Support for Interval Recording function
4.) Expand lowest value of Zebra level to 0%
5.) Support for Noise Suppression setting in Cine EI mode
6.) Video Signal Monitor usability is improved.
7.) The operability of “Iris setting” using the “Iris dial” and the “assignable dial” is improved.
8.) FS-RAW image quality and operation stability improvement
9.) Overall stability and operability of the camera is improved

I can confirm that as of this morning, all of our cameras have now been updated.
