Zeiss announce the Loxia 2.8/21

13 October 2015

Zeiss announce the Loxia 2.8/21

And so the Loxia 2/35 and Loxia 2/50 finally have a brother!  We have been waiting for this to be announced and are very much looking forward to stocking them.  Our customers have been asking when we'd see a really wide angle Loxia (along with a nice long telephoto but that's another story for another day!).

Anyone familiar with the design of the existing Loxia's will feel instantly at home with the new Loxia 2.8/21.  So that means the same rugged metal body with weather protection on the lens mount.

Inside the Loxia 2.8/21 consists fo 11 lens elements in nine groups (following tradition Distagon design).  We expect to see very little colour fringing and exceptional image quality.

As with the other Loxia's, the Loxia 2.8/21 is perfect for viedeo with the option to declick the aperture ring.  Additionally the focus is smooth with a rotational angle of 90 degrees (much easier than using an AF lens for manual focus).

There's not a huge amount more we can say about the lens.  We have our order in and as always, will have the first lenses available to try - you can find out more about hiring the lens here.   Below is Zeiss' official launch video -
