Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM now in stock!

The quality of primes has been picking up a pace with Sigma's Global Vision range having set quite incredible standards.  To be honest, this has exposed a few older lenses as not being quite as good as they could be and Canon's L range is among them.

So we're delighted to see they are doing something about it and just as well really, given the hugely impressive results the big sensor 5DS and 5DS R can deliver.

Step forward the new Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM, announced at the end of August and now in stock.  The Mark I has been around for about 7 years and has always been a popular lens for many different applications.  The new one is the first Canon L series lens to include BR optics, a new technology integrated into the compound element of the lens at molecular level to help reduce chromatic aberration and produce sharper images.

We haven't had much time to play with them but our friends over Amateur Photographer have (we lent them a Mk I to do comparisons).  Their first sample images are available to view here and no doubt a full report will be available soon (we'll link it in).
