Canon EOS-1D X Mark II now in stock

It was almost 4 years ago to the day we received our first batch of Canon EOS-1D X cameras, a year later getting stock of the EOS-1D C.  I am a mirrorless fan but if I had to have just one camera the 1D X would be it.  It is still just ridiculously fast - its ability to nail a shot was just mind blowing when I first picked one up.  The quality was hugely better than its 18mp sensor would suggest.  Then throw in the fact you could use it in any weather and it also had a beautiful HD movie image.  Fact was, if you needed to get a shot, this camera would deliver.

Fast forward to now and we say hello to the EOS-1D X Mark II.  So headline features may seem not that great but I know Canon spent a lot of time developing the camera following feedback from existing pro 1D X users so as a whole, they make it a significantly better pro powerhouse.

The sensor is new at 20.2mp.  Nothing daft but more than enough to get a decent shot whilst still maintaining hugely fast frame rates and good low light performance.  And hugely fast frame rates it does in spades - 14 frames per second with full auto exposure and autofocus tracking - you really have to experience it to believe just how fast those internals are moving.

Buffer has increased hugely - the camera can now capture unlimited JPEGs in a burst (and up to 170 RAW files, up from 38 in 1D X) using a CFast 2.0 memory card.  AF has been suitably improved to cope with this capability.

The EOS-1D X always produced a cracking HD image.  The new camera will shoot up to 60fps at 4K (though only internally strangely) using again Motion JPEG format.  The new Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor also now allows smooth autofocus and touch focus on the LCD display (at last!).

Overall it is a significant step up from the its predecessor (which was already and still is a cracking camera) and is well worth a look if you are after a ridiculous fast 'does everything you can throw at it' camera.
