With the ever-changing world of the Smartphone, the Compact camera market has had to evolve into something quite different (and for most photographers, something really quite exciting!). Sony and Fuji have spearheaded this advance. Fuji's X100 range has been an astonishing success, combining a cracking 23mm prime lens with their superb APS-C X-Trans sensor. Sony has always been known for innovation and the RX1 showed that to a tee - here was a compact camera with a 35mm full frame sensor, again like the Fuji with a stunning fixed lens, this time a Zeiss 35mm f/2. The secret as to why both of these cameras produce such good imagery is the matching of the glass to sensor. Not cheap but the results speak for themselves.
Bridge cameras have always proved popular as a one stop shop for someone wanting a camera to do a bit of everything and they just keep on improving and knocking on the door of more dedicated systems.
We have a new addition to our Compact Camera range in the form of the Lytro Illum - a totally new take of photography. If you want to find out more, do have a browse through the Illum product page and watch the video. We shall no doubt be seeing more of this technology moving forwards.
