Do we offer insurance?

Yes, we do!  We have linked up with Aaduki Insurance to provide you with what we consider to be the most comprehensive cover of its type available.  This option has proved very popular simply because it allows customers to hire equipment without having to provide deposits.

Rather than just saying 'it covers everything', we have listed below detailed answers with regards to what is and is not covered.

How do I organise insurance?

When you check an on-line quotation, you will be provided with an insurance quotation below the hire quotation price.  This price includes Insurance Premium Tax and is subject to no additional charges.  Similarly all availability requests will also show the optional insurance price.  When booking on-line, please select the Insurance Option and we will include it in your hire.  If you'd rather phone us up, we can happily provide you with the cost of insurance at the time of quoting or taking a booking.  The only additional information we are required to take over the normal details is your date of birth.

What is covered?

The insurance will cover accidental damage, loss and/or full theft.   Please feel free to click on the following links to read more -

Summary of Cover

Does the premises where I will keep the equipment overnight need specific locks?

Yes. Our Insurers ask that all ground floor plus any accessible windows are fitted with key operated window locks and that all final exit doors have a five lever mortice deadlock fitted. (If the doors are made of UPVC then a door with an integral locking system whereby the lock engages with the frame at more than one point upon the turn of a key or handle is acceptable in place of a five lever mortice deadlock).  If these requirements cannot be met see “Is there an amount to pay towards a claim?” below.

Do the premises where I will keep the equipment overnight need to be of standard construction?

Yes. Our Insurers ask that the premises in which you intend to keep the equipment overnight is built of brick, stone or concrete and roofed with slate, tiles, concrete, metal, asbestos or any other non-combustible material. If this requirement cannot be met, see “Is there an amount to pay towards a claim?” below.

Is the equipment covered whilst left in an unattended vehicle?

Yes, provided that the equipment is left out of sight from the exterior of the vehicle in a locked luggage compartment or boot and that it has not been left in a vehicle between the hours of 9.01pm and 5.59am. (It should be noted that out Insurers do not deem an item to be left out of sight if left in the vehicle with a coat or blanket left covering it – it must be in a locked luggage compartment or boot or there is no insurance! If you have hired more than £5,000 equipment, our Insurers will only pay up to £5,000 for theft from an unattended vehicle if the vehicle from which the theft occurred is fitted with a factory fitted or professional fitted alarm.

What if I am going on holiday and camping in a tent?

If you are to go camping with our equipment our Insurers will waive their usual time restriction for cover from an unattended vehicle but they insist that overnight the equipment is left out of sight from the exterior of the vehicle in a locked luggage compartment or boot. At any time, and not just overnight, there is no cover following Theft or Damage of any equipment from a tent, trailer or other similarly constructed structure whatsoever. (Proof of residence on a camp site may be requested in the event of a claim and our Insurers advise that you should obtain receipts from the site clearly showing your arrival and departure dates).

What if I am going on holiday and staying in a caravan or campervan?

If you are to go on holiday with our equipment our Insurers will waive their usual time restriction for cover from an unattended vehicle but they insist that overnight the equipment is left out of sight whilst inside the vehicle and that all windows are closed and doors lock and curtains are closed.  (Proof of residence on a camp site may be requested in the event of a claim and our Insurers advise that you should obtain receipts from the site clearly showing your arrival and departure dates).

Does the insurance cover damage or loss of the equipment if I have to place in into the hold of an aircraft?

Yes provided that you have packed the equipment in sturdy, hard shelled, carry cases and not inside your usual suitcase.

What happens if I damage or lose the equipment or it is stolen?

Call us immediately. We will notify our Insurers and they will then contact you to discuss what has happened. Please be aware that it is a condition of our Insurers that any loss or theft is reported to the police immediately and a crime report number obtained; in the event of damage or loss by an airline, our Insurers ask that you obtain a Property Irregularity Report from the airline at the airport at which you have arrived. Our Insurers will ask for you to complete a form to confirm what has happened but other than that there is very little you will have to do other than provide them with any assistance they may ask of you and to provide them with any documentation they may reasonably ask of you.

Is there an amount to pay towards a claim?

Yes, to keep the premium down the Insurers ask for the first amount of a claim to be paid as follows:

£150 main policy excess
£250 if following theft from an unattended vehicle

Also, if whilst staying away from your home address, the address where you are temporarily staying is not secured against forced entry by intruders in accordance with locks mentioned above, our Insurers ask for the first 25% or £500 of each and every claim to be paid (whichever is the greater following), theft or damage from such an address.

If, whilst staying away from your home address, the address where you are temporarily staying is not a building built of brick, stone or concrete and roofed with slate, tiles, concrete, metal, asbestos or any other non-combustible material, our Insurers ask for the first 25% or £500 of each and every claim to be paid (whichever is the greater), following fire, aircraft, lighting, explosion, storm, water damage.

"Great service, thanks. How about a Canon EOS 1Ds Mk III in the Canon line-up?

Note from Hireacamera - we did have them but they were incredibly unpopular so we sold them - sorry! "
