Fujifilm has a few lenses labeled ‘macro’ in its lineup, but not all are capable of reproducing an image of a subject at true life size (1:1) like the XF 80mm F2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro. If truth be told, the barrel feels a little plasticky despite it being weather sealed and it’s prone to high-frequency whirring when focusing, however these are the only downsides on what is otherwise an impressive optically stabilised prime that lets you shoot fascinating close-ups handheld. Optimum sharpness is obtained between f/4 and f/8 and vignetting is well controlled. If you’re a Fujifilm user specialising in macro photography it’s a lens that has your name written all over it.
