Pablo Gallegos was yet another one of our lovely customers who grabbed our attention when he tagged us on Instagram with these awesome surfing shots. He has a Nikon D500 and chose to hire the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500MM F/5.6E PF ED VR as its companion, and with the crop factor of the D500 he was shooting with an equivalent focal length of 750mm on a set-up weighing less than 2.5kg!
We got in touch to find out a little more about his project – over to Pablo!
"In this case, the surf photography was a personal project. Ever since the 500mm f/5.6 came out I was looking for an excuse to use it, and I had the chance to join some surfer friends for a weekend in Newquay, which was a great opportunity for me to test the lens and try out a type of photography that was new to me. I love all aspects of photography and am constantly trying to expose myself to new styles of it. Trying out new stuff allows me to further develop and find my unique style, it also allows me to understand the equipment better as well as how to read the environment no matter the light or subject. I want to improve as much as possible and trying out new things is the way to do it.
I used this lens with my Nikon D500 and it was a beautiful configuration. As a result of the DX sensor in this camera I had a 750mm equivalent to play with, combining this with the lightness, sharpness and focus speeds of this lens it allowed me to chase surfers with my camera all day long. Overall I absolutely loved the lens and can’t wait to use it again.
I have now rented twice with Hireacamera and I genuinely couldn’t ask for more, the system is great and the customer service is impeccable. A lot of these opportunities are possible thanks to your service and equipment availability. As a student it is not possible to own 10+ lenses or even have the time to do a shoot everyday, but thanks to hireacamera I can make many projects possible by being able to rent any equipment, any day of the year."
These wonderfully emotive images have got us longing for warm summer days! Thank you so much Pablo, for letting us share your images and for your kind words.
