Have you entered the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards? These exciting new annual awards are devoted to supporting and elevating independent filmmakers and creators from across the globe. The winning and shortlisted filmmakers will be flown to Los Angeles, home of Hollywood, for a three-day event!
A spotlight for filmmakers free to enter, the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards is a major new program for short films providing an exceptional opportunity for creators and filmmakers from around the world. The 30 successful filmmakers will be flown to Los Angeles to visit Sony Pictures studio in Culver City, California, where they'll gain unparalleled insight into the world of cinema and gain exclusive access to industry experts through panel discussions,
Workshops and screenings.
From pitching, to legal, to working with talent agencies and using cutting-edge technologies, outstanding workshops will provide exclusive access into the inner workings of the industry. Winners will be announced during a black-tie awards ceremony at the Cary Grant Theatre.
The Filmmaker competition elevates original voices that bring a fresh perspective to storytelling. Aimed at independent filmmakers and creators from around the world, there are three categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction and Environment. The competition awards a winner from each of the categories and has a shortlist of up to 15 (maximum five per category). The three winners receive $5,000 (USD), an FX9 Cinema Line camera plus lens, and are flown, along with the shortlist, to Los Angeles.
The Student Filmmaker competition rewards talent soon to shape the industry. All entrants must be studying a film course at a registered institution at a diploma or degree level worldwide. There are two categories: Fiction and Non-fiction. The competition awards two winners and their institutions from each category and has a shortlist of up to 10 (maximum of five per category). Institutions that make up the shortlist are selected by continent to ensure a diverse range of global talent. The two winners and their institutions receive a range of Sony camera equipment ideal for filmmakers. Winners are flown, along with the shortlist, to Los Angeles.
The Future Format competition challenges filmmakers to respond to a technical brief – this year, submissions are to be shot exclusively on a smartphone. The competition awards one winner and has a shortlist of up to five. Submissions must be between 2 to 5 minutes in length. The winner receives $2,500 (USD), a range of Sony camera equipment ideal for filmmakers and is flown, along with the shortlist, to Los Angeles.
