CUSTOMER CASE STUDY: Roaming the savannah with the Sony 100-400mm GM OSS
21 May 2020
Like many of our customers, Amandip Panesar tagged us in his images when he posted a few on Instagram, they were absolutely stunning, so we just had to see more! Amandip and his family were travelling to Tanzania to go on safari, and he chose the perfect lens for long-distance wildlife – the Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS. Over to Amandip…
"I’m a hobby photographer who loves landscape, nature and wildlife photography and at the end of January this year I travelled to Tanzania for 2 weeks to celebrate my birthday with my family. We had been wanting for a while to go on safari and we decided to combine it with a trip to Zanzibar to relax on the beach after all the travelling with the safari.
"We flew into Kilimanjaro and were based in Arusha for a couple of days before heading out in the jeep for the safari trip, we then travelled to:
Lake Manyara National Park (1 night)
Ngorongoro Crater (a UNESCO world heritage site) (2 nights)
Serengeti National Park (south and central) - (4 nights)
"I currently have a Sony a7 III and a Sony a7 as my backup, but I knew in order to get the most out of the safari, I would need a good telephoto with decent reach. Renting seemed the obvious choice as these lenses are very expensive! Plus I don’t have much need for such a long zoom when at home.
"I chose the Sony 100-400mm GM after reading reviews online and I knew it would be a good choice for two reasons: the quality of the image would be top quality with a Sony G Master lens (great bokeh and stabilisation) and the 100-400 isn’t too big, so it would be ok for me to carry around in my bag with all the travelling. I paired this with my Sony a7 III as my main camera for wildlife and used a wide angle zoom on my Sony A7 for the landscapes.
"The hire process was very simple, I filled in an online form and had to provide some documentation for ID verification, which was very simple to provide over email. This was a very quick and easy process and I was able to speak to someone if I had any questions or concerns. I paid the deposit and was then given the details of where and when I could pick up the lens (I chose to pick it up from a click and collect point in a shop as I work in a central London office). It was as easy as going there on my lunch break and picking it up, simple as that! It had all the packaging provided in the case for when I had to return it, so literally everything is done for you, it was just a matter of dropping the lens back at the shop when I was back from the trip.
This lens literally made all the difference for safari and left me with some amazing photos and memories I can keep for life. I would definitely rent it again and recommend the lens for anyone who is shooting wildlife, and I would recommend Hireacamera for any equipment you need."
Well we think we can all agree that this is a truly amazing set of images! We would like to thank Amandip for sharing them with us, writing us such a lovely review and for being such a pleasure to assist. You can find more of his gorgeous imagery via the links below:
