Josh Swords is a wildlife and travel and photographer, and his passion has taken him to many far-flung locations across the world. He approached us in anticipation of his trip to the very remote Zakouma National Park in Chad, looking for a good quality telephoto lens to pair with his Sony a6000. After some consideration he chose the Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS, and as you can see, got some fantastic results! Over to Josh…
“My name is Josh Swords. I am a published travel writer & photographer, tour leader for Lupine Travel, and wildlife enthusiast. I also run my own adventure travel tours.
Being drawn to hard-to-reach and remote destinations, I use a light and fairly inexpensive camera body; the Sony a6000.
My latest trip was to the remote Zakouma National park in Chad, Central Africa, as part of a group of like-minded adventure travellers with Lupine Travel (@lupine_travel). I wanted to ensure that I captured some great images so I hired the Sony FE 100-400mm GM. This lens offered me a broad focal range which gave me the flexibility I needed to photograph wildlife from just a few feet away, to wildlife that was hundreds of feet away.
"I was concerned that my fairly low spec camera wouldn’t perform adequately with the GM lens, but my concerns turned out to be unfounded. The camera and lens performed great and far exceeded my expectations, even in low light situations.
I’d never hired a lens before, so I was cautious when selecting which company to hire from. After some research, Hireacamera stood out as a company who valued customer service and quality of gear above all else, and so I placed an order with them.
"My initial order was for the Sony 200m f2.8, but at the last minute I decided to change my mind. Alex, who took my order, was incredibly helpful and I was able to amend my original order just a day or so before the hire was due to start. It was at that moment that I was sure Hireacamera would be the business I’d use for all of my future hires.”
What a striking set of images, and how lucky Josh was to encounter so many beautiful, rare animals in their natural habitat. We would like to say a huge thank you to Josh for sharing these stunning photographs with us and of course, for the kind words, we very much look forward to speaking to you again soon!
