NEWS: SIGMA Announces 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art for L Mount

SIGMA’s second “Art zoom” for mirrorless cameras is now available for L mount cameras – such as the new Panasonic S1H. Best-in-class performance and large aperture offers high resolution throughout the entire zoom range.

SIGMA made extremely high resolution possible with the 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, SIGMA’s first Art zoom designed for mirrorless cameras. This technology has been applied to the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, SIGMA’s second Art zoom. Leading the way with mirrorless camera dedicated designs, SIGMA has kept the size and weight of the lens to a minimum, while achieving uniformity and high resolution from the centre to the periphery throughout the zoom range. Furthermore, compatibility with the latest mirrorless camera bodies and function assists in various photographic environments and meets the high demands of professional or advanced amateur photographers. Following the 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, the 24–70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art is the flagship of the new-generation Art zoom and the ultimate large-aperture standard zoom lens.

Best-in-class optical performance

SIGMA’s flagship F2.8 Art zoom lens series has been developed to achieve ultimate optical performance. Extra-low dispersion glass, six sheets of “F” low dispersion (FLD) glass and two sheets of special low dispersion (SLD) glass are incorporated and take advantage of an optical design specifically designed for mirrorless lenses. By employing three aspheric lenses, this zoom lens thoroughly subdues aberrations such as axial chromatic aberration and sagittal coma aberrations – which are difficult to correct in post-processing. This lens creates makes superior optical performance from the centre to the periphery throughout the zoom range possible. Super Multi-Layer Coating and Nano Porous Coating is also employed. This lens is designed to be less affected by strong incident light such as flare and ghosting.

Ensuring compatibility with the latest full-frame mirrorless camera bodies

The SIGMA 24–70mm F2.8 DG DN ensures compatibility with various types of the latest full-frame mirrorless camera bodies tailored for L-Mount and Sony E-Mount so as to be capable of exerting the best performance under any photographic circumstances. To the AFL button, for example, various functions can be assigned from a camera body, which enhance the operability while shooting. Employing a stepping motor and the latest algorithm successfully establishes a good balance between acceleration and quietness of the AF drive. This enables stress-free focusing. Furthermore, this lens is compatible with the Eye-Detection AF – used more frequently in today’s mirrorless cameras, which allows high-precision focusing at the time of portrait photography.

Adaptable to various uses and photographic environments

The minimum focusing distance of the SIGMA 24–70mm F2.8 DG DN is 18cm at the wide-angle end. The maximum magnifications are 1:2.9 at the wide-angle end and 1:4.5 at the telephoto end, which provides a wider range of expression with close-up photography. Furthermore, the lens adapts to various uses and usage environments through employment of a dust-and splash-proof structure and includes a zoom lock mechanism for preventing the lens barrel from extending unexpectedly – thus meeting a wide range of needs for photography. An AF/MF switch featured on many conventional SIGMA lenses is also embedded in the lens barrel.
