Zeiss Loxia 2.4/85 now in stock!

Zeiss have been building on their two lens families for the Sony E-Mount system.  For stills specifically, offering autofocus and a 'mini Otus' feel you've got the Batis range.  Bolt one on the front of an a7R II and you'll see what all the fuss is about.  The Loxia family has held a different following being suited to both stills and video.  Why?  They are manual lenses - no AF here, so for stills you have to accept that compromise but in the these days of decent EVF's, peaking and expanded focus, it's not that hard to nail decent focus.

But their killer feature has been two fold.  Firstly a high degree of rotation of focus (this new 85mm lens has 220 degrees of rotation) - this makes is so easy to pull precise focus - and their aperture de-click option so you can have a continuous smooth aperture adjustment.  Shooting stills?  Just set it back to a clickable aperture ring.

Some might moan at the lens being no faster than it's f/2.4 spec but I think in most cases that's missing the point.  You can shoot sharp images quite easily and the background produced is still creamily soft.  Start shooting video and it's still practical.  Most importantly it's also meant no compromise to the size.

So whilst longer than its brothers in the range (especially if you use the lens hood), the diamter of the lens identical to all other Loxia's and it stull uses the same 52mm filter thread.
