Fujifilm announce two new lenses for the GFX

Fujifilm has announced the release of two new GF lenses, the FUJINON GF 110mm F2 R LM WR and FUJINON GF 23mm F4 R LM WR, for their GFX 50S medium format camera.

Aimed at portrait photographers, the GF 110mm F2 R LM WR is a medium telephoto lens with a full frame equivalent focal length of 87mm. Four ED elements arranged in a balanced manner before and after the aperture limits chromatic aberrations and the inner focusing AF system suppresses any aberration fluctuations due to changes in shooting distance.

The large F2 aperture, with it’s nine rounded aperture blades, offers fantastic bokeh "at both the front and back which enables the rich expression of out of focus areas unique to medium-format lenses."

The GF 23mm F4 R LM WR lens, delivering a full frame equivalent focal length of 18mm, this super wide-angle lens has been designed for landscape photography. With 12 groups and 15 elements construction, using two aspherical lenses, one super ED lens, and three ED lenses, lens distortion is suppressed despite being a super wide-angle lens with a 99.9° angle of view. A Nano GI coating has been applied to the GF 23mm F4 that "targets incident light entering the lens from diagonal angles due to the nature of the super wide-angle lens. Despite being a super wide-angle lens, the occurrence of ghosting and flare is effectively suppressed."

Both of the GF 110mm F2 and the GF 23mm F4 are weather sealed allowing the user to shoot in dusty environments or in light rain.

The lenses are due for release in June this year and you can bet that we’ll have them in stock the moment they are available. In the meantime, you can hire the Fujifilm GFX 50S here or browse the range of GF lenses already available here.

Fujifilm has also unveiled the development roadmap for the GF lens series. The two new additions to the GF lens roadmap, a telephoto prime lens and a teleconverter both due for release in 2018, join the original lineup of 6 lenses announced at Photokina last year. The addition of a telephoto prime lens and the teleconverter expands the GF lineup to a total of eight lenses “providing a satisfying lineup to accommodate the wide range of user needs.”
