Hi there, I think the copy on some of your pages/emails could be clearer. For example - when sent an email about collection it mentioned calling before 10.30am, but did not specify which day (ie day email received or day of collection). Also I found the website a bit 'circular' - I went round and round it before realising I needed to do lots of the admin on the 'phone. I think you could spell out the steps required to hire kit a little clearer - it wasn't intuitive to a web-savvy user like myself. Suspect other may struggle too. Your staff are great though and it's a great service - ta!

Maybe you need to do a pro site. It does feel as though I'm hiring from a company that deals more with the amateur market, no disrespect to that. If you give a price, that should be the price. I don't mind the extra discount but I prefer to know from the start how much something will cost. Show availability on the web page. Your web page model is very out dated. Somebody needs to go on a course to sort out the foam inserts in your Pelicases. Other ancillary equipment (chargers etc) should be in foam bags. Hope you don't mind these comments but you did ask...

You supplied a jack to XLR cable so that I could use the ECM77 with 5Dmkiii but unfortunately it was the wrong one i.e. You supplied male to male. Excellent quality of advice up to the point of hire, excellent equipment and first class delivery and pickup service. It would be useful for you to have Macs in the office too - I was trying to get some technical support for using a mac with the Canon XA10 and the guy I spoke to was only able to provide limited support because he didn't have access to one. We were ultimately able to deal with my query, but more by luck and the fact that it was fairly basic. Overall, a good service, and I'd be happy to hire equipment from you again.

The whole experience with Hireacamera was exceptional, as I've found to be the case each time I've used them and I would definitely use them again and again. The only niggle I had was that the fluid tripod that I hired could have done with some oiling as the legs were quite dirty and consequently quite stiff to open and close

Had some issues with UPS thinking the Pre-12 service was a standard next day. It's not the first time I've had issues with UPS so it wasn't a surprise. The office staff were on the ball and had the matter promptly rectified with UPS and the delivery was made shortly after. Equipment was in immaculate condition and was actually clean (I've rented elsewhere in the past and found myself cleaning equipment before it was usable) All in all, very happy with the service. Just wish I'd booked earlier and for longer!!

I found the telephone response when I rang up to say that I still had the manual for Canon flashgun a bit surly and was surprised that I had to send it recorded delivery to avoid delay and not compromise my deposit. A little heavy handed. Apart from that, really great service.

Maybe suggest how to show some of the kit like the Lastolite EZYbox and what comes in the kit. Overall very happy with the rental kit and service, just slightly disappointed that I could not get the latest Canon speedlite system, and that the EZYbox kit did not have the angle bracket so you can angle the head etc.

My only small gripe is that I hired cameras in the Summer and was under the impression that the price would go down for my second hiring, but in fact it went up slightly. We got around this by adjusting the hire dates to bring the cost down. I still feel that the cost is very reasonable

There aren't many places around that I would expect to have the high level of service and standards Hire A Camera do. I hired a D600, Sigma 15mm fish eye and Zoom H4N recorder for a wedding I shot down in the New Forest (over 200 miles from me) and they had no problem delivering to my second shooters address near the venue as I'd be driving that day. They even sent it out a day early at no extra cost so that we could make sure everything was OK before the wedding in case something wasn't right. I will continue to recommend Hire a Camera and use them where I need them.

It was interesting that on this occassion, even though I was only hiring for a Tuesday, you were keen to deliver my hire on the previous Thursday at no extra charge. Conversely, when I have asked for a Monday hire in the past, I have generally had to pay slightly more for the hire to include the weekend as well. The same hire effectively, but different costs. I appreciate your emphasis on making sure the delivery gets to me but why can't I pay for just one day when I hire for a Monday use?

Updating items in the basket doesn't always refresh correctly. (When changing the quantity of an item for example.) The whole experience was really impressive. I have to say the arranged delivery and pick up puts you above the rest and I'll definately be hiring from you again. The only thing I could say was that just a tiny bit more instruction could be given on the delivery papers on how the package up the equipment. I was not at home when it was recieved and I asked my family to ensure all was ok so it was unpacked. Nevertheless I just picked up the phone and asked what to do with the tie straps and it was fine. All worked well and people were very helpful!

The availability calendar could use a bit of improvement. For example remembering previous date searches, as checking availability of different equipment requires reselecting. This could be stored in session quite easily. A courier who can give estimation of collection time would be really helpful, so I don't have to stay in all day waiting. I was surprised to find out that the structure of the deposit/ insurance has changed. It would have been a good idea to inform customers of this change before it happened. Having the option to send the lens back youself using Royal Mail Special Delivery would be great as it means not having to wait in all day on day of collection. Or having the option to upgrade to an earlier collection.
We did consider this but as it costs ?27.50 to send back that way, we felt this was way too expensive. Interlink are trialling a timed collection service which we hope will be introduced soon. Always remember that you can always return yourself to your local depot negating the need to stay in.

I did raise the point twice and I had to check again when you called me (very helpfully) with the collection ref. You should have a step by step card of what you should do. I thought that courier was already arranged but I'm glad that I phoned to check - as it wasn't. We've just checked with Interlink and they say that they are still trialling this on collections - as soon as it goes live, we'll be doing just that.

Due to holidays there was some confusion over my order and I had to contact the centre to confirm my order then again to request a confirmation email. I was also contacted to be told that the item I had ordered had marks on the lens only to be contacted the next day to say the lens I had hired was not available but was giving me an earlier version of the lens. I put this down to staff shortages due to holidays at the time resulting in staff being moved into this department to cover. I have had no problems before so think of it as a one off.
We have to hold our hands up. We had two people off sick and yes, we did have temp cover. Really sorry about this - we've taken on another two people to ensure that it never happens again.

I put average for condition of equipment for one reason only the batterys supplied had a very bad charge rate and this was an issue for me. You should replace batteries with new ones more often. Also when I booked I wanted a 5d mk 3 or mk 2 but none where in stock. And you had almost no lenses I wanted at all. Maybe this was bad timing but could be an issue if your stock levels are low. The staff are fantastic Amy was especially helpful no issue at all with you service I would rate the service as excellent in every way. Just availability of cameras and lenses was an issue.
Sorry about the battery Anthony - we actually measure charge rates when equipment comes back and I'm not sure how that one slipped through the net. We do have a huge stock of equipment but I'm afraid an unusually busy weekend combined with only a day's notice meant we didn't have much left! If you can give us a bit more notice next time, we should have what you need!

Although not a complaint to Hireacamera, the courier delivery and collection was not good. When the equipment was delivered, it came at 2pm, but when tracked online, it was showing as signed for at 11.55am. A different firm to CityLink delivered the equipment and did not ask for a signature. Not only was the equipment late delivered, there was no explanation as to why it was signed for by an unknown 3rd party. The courier was incredibly rude. The item missed its original collection due to Interlink not fitting it into their schedule. This was dealt with very promptly by Hireacamera staff :-)
Sorry about this Andrew - we have spoken to both couriers - very frustrating all round.

While I found your system very efficient, I found the whole process of hiring from the initial selection of equipment to dispatch to be very lengthy. I appreciate your need to ensure your customers are legitimate, but the whole process of scanning ID documents, answering questions both online, and then repeated questions on the phone, to be a bit too long compared to other companies I have hired from. I was not quite sure why the follow up phone call was necessary to confirm my order. Initially dissapointed with the fact that some trouble had to be gone through to obtain an extra batteries and chargers for the cameras hired. But you were able to supply our requirments and it enabled us to complete our task of filming a disabled children's charity taking these children on a skiing holiday in Italy. It was ten days that required three camera people to be working through out the day and night capturing the activities undertaken by the children and helpers. For the results visit www.katiesskitracks.org. Without the extra batteries we would have not be able to cover all the events of the week and as for some of the children it is their last chance to have a group type holiday. So thank you for supplying the extra batteries as we are proud of the footage we were able to take.

I think the next time round the process will be a lot easier. I had a lot of issues getting paperwork signed by our MD and details that were requested as it was his credit card paying for it and he had to therefore sign the paperwork (this was for work use). I needed quite a quick turnaround on getting the equipment in so this was a bit of a pain and quite long winded. Understand you need to be careful about it but am sure there must be an easier and smoother way of doing this.

Generally we were and are still very impressed with the service and support from you guys. I think CityLink let you down in that we had to chase/locate and then collect 2 of 3 items from a depot 60 miles away with our first hire because CityLink hadn't done their job properly. It was better with our second hire in that all 3 items arrived promptly. The nice treat in the package always goes down well (nice touch). Only thing I would say on a technical note re the site, I recall when you click to request/check availability from the site the items you select dont seem to stay in your 'basket' or selection. I do spend a lot of time returning the equipment to the nearest citylink depot. It would be handy to have citylink pick up the equipment but at certain times. Lets say if I need the equipment until 4pm then I'd like to be able to tell citylink not to pick it up before 4pm. Also some email newsletters with vouchers would be handy. My only gripe is that the lens I wanted to hire was out of stock, at least a week in advance of booking. The alternative to the lens I wanted was the only option (A Sigma 70-200 f2.8 was offered as a Canon 70-200 f2.8 wasn't in stock for the date I required). Only problem is that the lens itself was MASSIVELY inferior to the Canon item and therefore was largely useless to me on the day of the shoot. I hardly used it and ended up being a bit of a waste of money really. I wont be borrowing that lens again. But overall, the service itself was excellent. Couldn't be happier with Hireacamera. Just a shame the lens that was offered as an alternative spoilt a few things. Not Hireacamera's fault I would suggest, but a mistake I won't make again.

The only issue I experienced was with the courier. They did not arrive on the planned day so someone was required to wait an extra day for collection. As it happens I was working on the images from the shoot but if I had other venues to attend this could have been an issue. I Believe this was the courier's fault rather than that of Hire-A-Camera. On a positive note, the hard case and the plastic cable tie locking provided great security and safety for the equipment and peace of mind for me the customer. Details of this could be included on your web site along with the terms and conditions that state what the customer is responsible for. It would indicate that Hire-A-Camera is doing their bit to ensure there is no tampering or damage likely during transit. Finally, the use of email and scanned documents speeded up the transaction. Your friendly and helpful staff also made the task a pleasure. Special regards to Sian, who has a great sense of my requirements and humour and put me at my ease straight away when she phoned me. The service was excellent, first class!

The lens that I hired works with my Nikon D3000 but that is not listed. You will miss business this way as other sites have more accurate information. 2. It would be great to have feature where one can search by camera model. So I type in my model and that lists all compatible lenses. Obviously that relies on 1. being up to date. Software advice might be helpful, e.g. trial After Effects won't load XF-100 footage but registered version will. Difficult to find that out elsewhere. The only niggle with your system was that I changed my pickup address in response to your pickup email, but the courier didn't get it - had to sort out by phone directly with the driver. A before 12pm collection option would be good, as would delivery before 9am. Apart from that, it's great. Your insurance is especially good, with others offering 750 excess and other daftness :) It's also useful that the kit includes everything you need.
More advice noted - we have two new members joining our team which will give us more chance to enhance the information we provide. Before 12pm deliveries are almost impossible due to couriers placing priority of timed 12pm deliveries - the only other real option is to drop back at a depot - we wish there were another way! We can happily deliver before 9am but it does cost more.

I was a little disappointed with the advice I was given with regards what camera we should use as they didn't have the one we wanted. We were recommended a Canon XF100 which we didn't find out recorded in a format that was not compatible with all softwares without converting. This meant having to buy software to convert. I had a slightly awkward booking as I was making it from abroad to come back to the UK for 2 days and then go abroad again. Internet access & mob phone was intermittent. I ended up with 2 very expensive phone calls as the Terms & Conditions had changed from my last hire and had to spend quite a long time on the phone dealing with how to get around my inability to sign & fax the new T&C, and provide ID before hiring, and then find out whether you had my payment details on record. However the service was extremely good given my overseas situation and the ladies most helpful, but it was somewhat frustrating given that I'd hired on two previous occasions. The equipment (tripod) was sent & picked up as efficiently as usual thank you. I felt that the tripod legs had a lot of gritty friction as if it needed cleaning and it made my job quite difficult & slowed me down, as the job required very many changes in position & height & I struggled quite a bit with it. However, the service saved my bacon as I needed the tripod and I will certainly hire again.

I was disappointed that I had asked for the Mark II lens, but got the Mark I lens, which had vignetting issues. when I called to discuss this issue I felt your staff didn't know enough about the equipment to help me. I ended up Google'ing it and found this to be a known problem with the Mark I lens. Also, the return courier bag you despatched to me was too small to fit the lens box in.
Note from Hireacamera - Strange one this as we have been using Mark I lenses with our D700 and D3's for over 3 years and never once have either we or any of our customers noticed a problem so genuinely we didn't know about an issue as we had never come across it before! With regards the booking, we hadn't got any Mark II's left so offered the Mark I as an alternative.

Well I have been extremely happy with the service, the only thing was when I hired a Dolly & Track but the dolly when I was on site after I used it to push up and down twice the wheels from one side came off. Some other general feedback below: It would be excellent in the future to have a time slot on when a courier will be picking up the kit. Or at least a phone call an hour before they're due to arrive. I know this may be very hard to organise and couriers don't make calls like that. The only other thing was that I received 45mm Tilt/Shift Lens instead of the 24mm Tilt/Shift that I ordered which wasn't a problem for me as it wasn't too integral to the shoot but if I did need a wider T/S lens it would have been unusable. I can honestly say that I cannot fault hire a camera. You consistently provide a high level of customer service that is very reassuring. Specifically, I am always pleased to speak to your staff who always know who I am, they know the products and there has not yet been a querie that they haven't answered for me. Although I don't always get to speak to the same person each time, the new person I speak to is still able to help me rather than passing round from person to person or worse still, putting me on hold! Most of all, I like that they are very pro-active when it comes to communiaction. If there is an issue with the equipment or a delay with collection, for example, they call me instead of waiting for me to contact them. It is a professional service that matches the value of the equipment they provide. I have used hire a camera more than once already but I have also recommended it to colleagues both on the Island and in the UK. I believe hire a camera to be excellent value for money and that their level of customer service is one other companies should aspire to.

My experience of hiring a basic but quality digital SLR was very good. A big plus point for your company is the friendly, 'can do' and efficient way in which you deal with customers over the phone and through e mail.
