We were contacted recently by Malcolm Watson, a self-proclaimed amateur photographer, as he was keen to share his fantastic images with us. He hired the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM to go with his Canon EOS 550D, due to its huge versatility, for his trip to South Africa and it looks like he made the perfect choice! Malcolm and his family were lucky enough to encounter a huge variety of beautiful animals and it looks like he was able to hold his nerve (and his camera!) steady in the face of some serious predators, over to Malcolm…
I have never been to Africa, so I was very excited to be going on Safari with my wife, brother and sister in law. I love wildlife documentaries, so it was going to be an amazing adventure to see the animals in real life.
To help record the moments as accurately as possible I wanted a great lens to go with my Canon EOS 550D. After looking around I chose Hireacamera and was not disappointed. They were very friendly and gave an excellent service.
Having never been on safari, I was not sure how far away the animals would be or what the light would be like, so I wanted a flexible lens. With Hireacamera’s help I chose a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM and had a great time learning how to get the best out of it.
We visited three different camps starting with Phinda Rock Lodge, part of the AndBeyond private game reserve. We followed this with Ngala Tented Camp and Ngala Main Camp. All locations were absolutely amazing, with incredible friendly service and the wildlife was superb, sometimes right outside your room!
We would like to say a huge thank you to Malcolm for sharing these amazing images with us, it looks like we may have another contender for National Geographic!
