Loop de Loop

As tricky as it is to capture a speeding plane tearing across the skyline above you, at least the sort of kit you need to capture it is pretty self-evident. Fast cameras are the order of the day, preferably with high burst rates so you can take dozens of shots a second, and pick the best one later, rather than requiring cat-like reflexes. 400mm tends to be the sweet spot for focal length, or 200mm/300mm on a cropped sensor.

You'll also want a fast lens with its aperture wide open, as the more light you can get in, the faster your shutter speed and the sharper your subject. Many photographers like to shoot in Aperture Priority when taking action shots. This puts you in control of aperture, and lets the camera compensate all other settings for a perfect exposure. With your lens wide open in aperture priority, your camera should choose the fastest shutter speed reasonable in the conditions you're shooting in.

The brilliant Nikon Z 7 II has got it all. Lens-wise, this package includes the Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3, providing a vast focal range to play with, from establishing shots to set the scene, to impressive zooms to zero in on the action. It’s also worth noting that the Z 7 II achieves such fidelity from its sensor, that zooming-in-post is extremely viable. Stability comes in the form of the Gitzo monopod, and the package also includes 2 batteries, a charger, and a memory card.
