One of the most prominent and popular camera manufacturers, Canon has been a compelling option for amateur and professional wedding photographers alike for decades, and they’re still busy innovating today. After years excelling in the DSLR market, they released their first mirrorless model back in 2012, and in 2018 made the leap to full frame mirrorless in the form of the EOS R. Naturally, removing the mirror makes for sleeker and lighter camera bodies – a huge benefit for wedding photographers lugging bags of kit around all day.

With the EOS R came the RF mount, a new lens system featuring world-class glass and a premium finish. As well as obvious advantages like a reduction in size compared to previous Canon lenses, the RF mount has been designed to communicate better with the camera and mounts closer to the sensor to help prevent ghosting and flaring.

All the above is great news for wedding photographers new or experienced – there's never been a better set of options to tick all the boxes kit-wise, so you can focus less on the logistics and more on your craft.

Option 1 - Canon EOS RP & Canon RF 24-240mm F4-6.3 lens
Weekend from £66 - hire now!

Canon’s entry-level full frame mirrorless camera is a great starting point to investigate the EOS R ecosystem and sample its fantastic range of RF lenses. Its versatility and lightweight build perfectly suits wedding photography, and the 26.2-megapixel sensor offers great low light performance as well as vibrant definition in the sunshine. If you're used to shooting with a DSLR, the weight difference will be the biggest surprise - the EOS RP is around half the weight of the 5D mk iv for example. The shift to RF is also a point that cannot be understated - the improvement in fidelity is quite significant, with this new range of mirrorless glass pin-sharp to the very corners, as well as being far better at keeping unwanted light away from the sensor.

This package includes a solid all-round zoom lens – a 24-240mm gives you a nice wide angle coupled with a decent bit of reach. You also get an EF mount to EOS R adapter thrown in, meaning you can make use of any EF lenses you might have too, though be aware autofocus may be affected when using them.
