Breath-taking Full Frame image quality

Canon’s own developed 5.9K full frame CMOS sensor delivers an immersive cinematic look combined with natural, smooth skin-tones and faithful colour reproduction with Canon colour science.

The sensor also provides 15+ stop latitude with a wide colour space, perfect for High Dynamic Range productions.

High quality and efficient recording formats

The EOS C500 Mark II features a newly developed DIGIC DV 7 image processor which enables Cinema RAW Light recording internally at 5.9K, as well as supporting recording of Canon’s XF-AVC format in 4K 4:2:2 10-bit. Simultaneous recording of the same file format is possible to the dual CFexpress card slots, with an additional SD card slot for proxy files. This multi-recording format provides efficiency and fulfils production requirements.

5.9K Over Sampling Processing for 4K

The EOS C500 Mark II uses a high-quality debayering algorithm when over sampling 5.9K for 4K/UHD recording. This suppresses moiré and reduces noise, resulting in a superior quality image.

Compact, lightweight and reliable

Approx. 1,730g lightweight body enables it to be comfortably rigged with gimbals and hand-held rigs, making it ideal for various shooting conditions.

Pioneering Auto Focus technology*

The EOS C500 Mark II features Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF Technology which offers high-speed Continuous AF. Users also benefit from smooth, intuitive touch focus operation with the new 4.3-inch LCD monitor LM-V2, as well as an improved focus control that recreates a more natural focus pull. To further fine tune AF performance, the EOS C500 Mark II offers the ability to set the AF tracking speed and response.

Extensive Auto Focus functions

Dual Pixel Focus Guide

Dual Pixel CMOS AF phase-difference technology provides an innovative graphical guide that represents front/back focus deviation; the rectangle turns green when the subject is in focus, improving usability and accuracy when manual focus pulling, especially for critical focusing in 4K.

Tracking AF

Simply use the touchscreen to select an object in the frame and it will be tracked as it moves within it, enabling effortless subject tracking, taking all the hard work away.

Face Priority AF / Face Only AF

Working together with Canon Face Detection technology, Dual Pixel CMOS AF is excellent at automatically recognising a face, focusing and following it while it moves.

First Cinema EOS to support Electronic IS

EOS C500 Mark II is the first Cinema EOS camera to incorporate Electronic Image Stabilization (IS) into the camera body, supporting 5-axis camera shake correction. Even when used with lenses with no electronic lens communication, Electronic IS is possible by manually inputting the focal length.

Automatically obtains focal length

When a lens that supports data transmission is attached, focal length data is automatically received through the digital contacts for shooting with optimised Electronic IS.

Electronic IS with non-electrical contact lenses

Shooting with Electronic IS is possible even when a lens that does not support data transmission is attached by simply manually inputting the focal length. It is also compatible with anamorphic lenses.

Focal Length can be saved

Just select focal length during shooting to shoot with an electronic IS effect optimised for the settings.

High frame rates

The EOS C500 Mark II supports high frame rate recordings up to a maximum 50/60 fps at 5.9K. In 2K (crop) mode, settings from 1fps to a maximum 120fps can also be made, increasing creative possibilities. The new Slow & Fast button gives quick access for Slow & Fast settings.

Advanced Interface

The EOS C500 Mark II features an advanced 12G-SDI interface which has four times the bandwidth compared to 3G-SDI, simplifying 4K workflows by enabling it to output 4K 50/60p over a single cable. Similarly, the HDMI interface can also deliver 4K 50/60p over a single cable.

Full Frame ND filter

Equipped with a robust built-in electronically controlled ND filter system, EOS C500 Mark II supports 2/4/6 and an extended 8/10 stops, making it possible to create an image with a shallow depth of field, even in the daytime.

New OSD layout

Newly added On-Screen Display (OSD) peripheral displays options that do not overlay information on the screen are available – choose from several options according to your needs.

Anamorphic lens support

EOS C500 Mark II supports anamorphic lenses by electronically de-squeezing the image in the viewfinder and on connected monitors for viewing.

Users can take advantage of the camera's full 5.9K resolution by using 1.3x squeeze anamorphic lenses. Popular 2x squeeze anamorphic lenses (that cover a native 1.2:1 aspect ratio on the sensor) can be used as well, using a 4:3 cropped area of the sensor.

User LUT support

Users can customize their own LUTs and load them onto the camera for precise-look monitoring, also, users can apply different LUTs for each output terminal. A new dedicated LUT button gives additional operational flexibility.

ACES Support

The EOS C500 Mark II supports ACES 1.0 of the Academy Colour Encoding System. Using Canon supplied IDTs, images captured on the D206 can be imported directly into the ACES compatible systems. Additionally, video output from the camera can be monitored by selecting the ACES Proxy.

Highly configurable and modular design

Optional Extension Units offer a flexible modular design and configuration capability to cater for a variety of production requirements.

Extension Unit 1 (EU-V1) offers multi-camera support with a Genlock interface, while Extension Unit 2 (EU-V2) adds further interfaces, such as two more XLR inputs, ideal for broadcast applications and a V-Lock battery mount for extended recording times. The optional EVF Unit is ideal for hand-held use but also answers user’s demands to make it easily removable for gimbal applications.
